Real Producers: Ed Huck – Ever Learning

If there is one thing that Ed Huck has gathered from his lifetime experiences thus far, it’s that active learning and applied focus are imperative for continual growth. Ed’s learning mindset has been developed through both systematic forms of education—coaching, classes, workshops, etc.—and through life experience. As he has taken the time to consciously focus on improving nearly every aspect of his life—marriage, parenting, spirituality, and business—he has found that, like all things entrepreneurial, what you focus on expands.

Ed first learned the pillars of entrepreneurship from his parents, both his father and stepfather owned multiple businesses, ranging from restaurants, to a marina, a nursing home, a travel agency, even managing a real estate office. He now knows that watching and learning from his parents’ successes and mistakes have helped shape who he is as a business owner today.

Ed’s mother became a real estate agent in the mid-1970s when he was in elementary school. Although he grew up in the industry, Ed never planned to become a real estate agent. He had his sights on becoming an architect instead and enrolled at Kent State University for architecture. After about a year-and-a-half however, Ed decided to enlist in the United States Air Force where he spent nearly six years serving his country as an aircraft mechanic and crew chief on C-130 cargo planes.

Most of his time in the service was spent in Frankfurt Germany and he was even deployed for six months to support Desert Storm. When Ed left the Air Force, he used his GI Bill to go back to college and obtained his real estate license. “I wanted to control my own destiny and I knew that a career in real estate would provide me with that opportunity.”

By the time Ed entered real estate in 1992, his mother and stepfather had already exited the industry. Knowing Ed’s propensity for learning, Ed’s stepfather gave him his old real estate sales and coaching materials. He also suggested starting his career with Realty One because at that time they were known for their excellent training programs. That is exactly what Ed did, thus a healthy real estate career began with a strong base of learning and training.

Another defining moment during Ed’s early career was when Bob Szarek was brought in as the manager of the Realty One Westlake office. “Bob exposed me to even more training: including attending the NAR conventions, Floyd Wickman Master Sales Academy, and encouraged me to get my Broker License, and both my ABR and CRS designations.”

Ed temporarily left sales to manage the Realty One West Park office in ‘99, and ultimately decided to start his own team in 2002. Ed and his team saw steady growth throughout the early 2000s but reached somewhat of a peak in production selling just over $9 million annually from 2006 to 2010. At that point, Ed made, ‘one of the best business decisions of his career,’ moving his team to Keller Williams, after being impressed by the company’s training and coaching programs and realizing it would be crucial for the team’s future growth.

Around that same time, God sent Ed a life-changing gift when his client walked into a model home without him. Julie, the sales rep that day, was kind enough to honor Ed as the REALTOR® of the sale even though he was not at the first appointment, and she would later become his wife, mother of his two boys, and business partner in the Ed Huck Team.

Julie joined the team after five years of selling new construction and the following year they broke through their production ceiling by $5M. From there they would go on to attend just about every training program KW offered (multiple times), enrolled in MAPS Coaching, and grew the team to 11 sales agents and 3 administrative assistants (they call their Care Team). As a result, their production skyrocketed. In 2019 they produced over $65M in total volume and helped 264 families fulfill their real estate goals.

“The first 20 years of my career was learning how to be a great agent, now I’m focusing on being a great leader and building systems around helping our team obtain their goals. We have created a platform and an environment for our team to thrive in all areas of their lives and to make a lasting impact on the clients they serve. God has blessed us with these gifts and this opportunity to not only impact the lives of our clients, but also the lives of our agents. We intend to ‘Change the Way Real Estate Is Sold’!”

Along with impacting their team members and clients, Ed and Julie are making an impact in their community. They chair the Board of Directors for The Garden Christian Academy which is dedicated to bringing Classical Christian education to the kids in the Clark Fulton neighborhood of Cleveland. They are also very involved with Bay Presbyterian Church and passionate about supporting the Greater Cleveland Food Bank, both financially and by participating in Harvest for Hunger campaigns.

In addition to Ed’s two adult sons, Justin and Devin, he and Julie also have two younger sons, Ethan and Connor. They are living a life by design and love to travel, spend as much time on the water boating with friends and family, and they love to go skiing together. Ed also enjoys taking his car to the track and improving his lap times.

With over 100+ training courses, events, masterminds, etc. under their belts, the Ed Huck Team’s commitment to improvement will continue to not only bring much success and happiness to their own lives, but to the lives of countless others.
